Dr. Stegall believes in thorough baseline testing for all cancer patients he accepts. This testing should not only look at tumor markers, but the entire body. Through his master’s degree in physiology, Dr. Stegall gained a genuine appreciation for how interconnected the body is. Nothing happens inside the body in isolation!
The baseline cancer testing Dr. Stegall orders includes:
- Complete blood count
- Immune system markers
- Liver function tests
- Kidney function measurements
- Blood sugar evaluation
- Inflammatory markers
- Cholesterol panel
- Advanced cardiovascular markers (including C-reactive protein and fibrinogen)
- Tumor markers
- Evaluation for blood clot risk
- Vitamin levels (including vitamin D)
- Hormonal status (including thyroid, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone)
In addition, Dr. Stegall does saliva testing to evaluate the adrenal glands. This is known as a four point cortisol, and provides meaningful information regarding the chronic effects of stressors on the body. If damage is present, it must be addressed in order to improve the body’s immune system and energy reserves.
Finally, Dr. Stegall’s initial cancer testing includes the OncoStat Plus test (also known as the “Greek Test”). Read more about this innovative and highly informative test here.
